We're delighted to announce FRAME Editions - a new project celebrating the relationship between artist and craftsperson with an experimental series of limited edition artworks.

Launching this September, with Aaron Angell is a small edition of works titled Cabbage Solar. Each work is painted on glass and housed in a frame inspired by the techniques used to make Tudor doll's houses.

“These works come from an interest in the gridlike patterns of historical timber frame housing. I asked Frame to use similar methods to those used in ‘Tudor style’ dolls houses, thereby making the frame for the image a sort of skeuomorphic panel, the frameworks of which are based on mainly 15th century houses found in Lavenham. The frames surround a series of 9 different hinterglasmalerei paintings made using acrylic on low-iron glass. These are based on a giant Flatpol cabbage grown for my 2017/18 exhibition at GoMA. ‘Solar’ references the name of a south-facing downstairs room found in numerous old houses which were used for warmth and occasionally for drying pumpkins and other vegetables.” Aaron Angell

Harry Burden, founder of FRAME London says, “Working as both an artist and a framer I have long been fascinated with the role of the frame in relation to the art. FRAME Editions has been many years in the making, and I’m proud to launch the project with Aaron Angell who compelled us to create our most innovative frame to date.”
