NEW FRAME Edition #5
Donna Huddleston, The Hag
The Hag is our latest FRAME Edition in collaboration with artist Donna Huddleston.
Launching 12 September, coinciding with Huddleston’s forthcoming exhibition at White Cube Mason’s yard. It is a polymer gravure etching of a humorous hag character, and housed in a carved walnut frame influenced by early 20th century black forest hand-carving and storybook aesthetic.
"The Hag is an extension of the work I was doing in my last show Donna Huddleston: In Person. Every drawing in that show I saw as role play, a version of myself in character. The Hag became one of those characters. It was like my performed-self and the Hag was one of those characters, she was another version of myself.
I think a lot about the framing of an artwork when I am making it... I think about what materials would work best, the world that I’m in as I’m making a drawing, some of them take many months. I have always really loved that ‘Witches’ House’ aesthetic, that dark wooden hand-carved almost ‘black forest’ element of it was perfect, so it felt like it wanted to be made. It felt very rewarding, like a very easy collaboration." - Donna Huddleston.

Frame Editions
FRAME Editions is a series of projects in which we collaborate directly with an artist to design a unique frame in unison with one of their artworks. The artist works exclusively with us to conceive a limited edition in which the frame and artwork are wedded. This is a unique concept, combining the work of craftsperson and artist in celebration of the rich tradition of artist’s frames.
In September 2024, we are excited to launch our latest FRAME edition, a collaboration with artist Donna Huddleston, to coincide with her forthcoming show Company, an exhibition of paintings and works on paper at White Cube Mason’s Yard.
FRAME Editions - A History
FRAME editions was launched in September 2019 with artist and ceramicist Aaron Angell. Cabbage Solar is a small series of artworks painted on glass and housed in a frame inspired by the techniques used to make Tudor doll's houses. All editions in this series are completely unique.
Juno's Volute by artist Aimée Parrott was the second FRAME edition published in November 2020. A series of ten individual monotypes linked by process and form, overlaid with translucent washes of acrylic ink on glass, the frame was designed to provide a structure for the various layers to interact.
In 2021 Jeremy Deller collaborated with us as part of an auction at Sothebys to raise funds to support Wildlife Victoria and community organisation Mallacoota and District Recovery Association after the bushfires in Australia made international headlines. Each work was framed in a unique eucalyptus wood with ash dust spray, designed especially for this unique auction.
In 2022, we were thrilled to publish our most recent edition with Enrico David, a series of unique collages housed in black oak frames with polished brass insert corners and accompanied by an original poem by the artist.
We have also had the priviledge of working with artists such as Diane Simpson, Katy Moran and Marc Camille Chaimowicz for a series of unique framed editions published by Whitechapel gallery and Nottingham Contemporary.
