With museums set to reopen on Monday 17th May, we’re celebrating two exhibitions which we’ve had the pleasure of working on behind closed doors: Lisa Brice at Charleston House and Alice: Curiouser and Curiouser at the V&A.

Lisa Brice at Charleston, East Sussex

In a new series of works, Lisa Brice explores the lines between interior and exterior, public and private, artist and model.

With echoes of artists such as Édouard Manet, Edgar Degas and Pablo Picasso, Lisa Brice’s work challenges, reinterprets and takes ownership of traditional depictions of the female nude and interrogates the male gaze which has dominated Western art for centuries. The paintings resonate deeply with Charleston’s concurrent exhibition of Nina Hamnett’s work by similarly addressing the historic relationship between artist and model. Text about the exhibition via Charleston.

It’s an enormous honour to frame Lisa’s work, and collaborate with an artist we admire. For this series, we float mounted and framed the work in natural maple wood from our Gallery range.

Open 19 May – 30 August 2021.

Alice: Curiouser and Curiouser at the V&A, London

Exploring its origins, adaptations and reinventions over 157 years, this immersive and theatrical show at the V&A charts the evolution of Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland from manuscript to a global phenomenon beloved by all ages.

Highlights from the exhibition include work by Salvador Dali, Vivienne Westwood, Peter Blake and Tim Walker alongside original illustrations from the first edition of Alice in Wonderland.

For the exhibition, we made a large batch of classic museum V&A oak frames. Alongside this, and as a continuation from Wonderful Things in 2019, we were delighted to frame Tim Walker’s work for Curiouser and Curiouser in high gloss, black piano aluminium frames.

Open 22 May 2021.
