About FRAME

FRAME London is a family-run business founded in 2014.

It carried directly on from The Royal Academy of Arts Framing where the founders had trained & worked- subsequently buying the core business when it ceased operations.

We specialise in the highest quality museum-standard framing techniques, which means that your artwork will be beautifully preserved for years to come. The frames we make are designed and made sustainably in our east London studio.

Based in the heart of Hackney, our team is made up of highly skilled craftspeople who are artists, or have trained in the museum and heritage sector, including the British Museum, Royal Academy, V&A and Tate Galleries.

We’re proud to be partnered with V&A, ICA London, Whitechapel Gallery, South London Gallery and work with London's top galleries and Museums

Inspiration comes in lots of different ways at FRAME - and we have grown our business through imagination, collaboration and the continued support from our local community of artists, galleries and friends.

About The Founders

Emily Taylor (Co-Director) worked for many years as a Collections Manager at the British Museum. Born in Melbourne, Emily moved to the UK to follow her interest in art and cultural studies. She is the driving force behind FRAME, having been involved from its inception, as well as raising a daughter with Harry for the past 10 years. Emily has an MFA in Museum studies from UCLA and along with her years of institutional experience brings a level of experience and expertise unqiue to the conservation framing industry. She is also a talented ceramicist. She also named FRAME right from the beginning!

Harry Burden (Co-Director) is both a practising artist and Director of FRAME London. Born in Melbourne, Harry also moved to the UK to follow his interest in art. Supporting himself as an artist Harry worked at the Royal Academy initially in the Publications Catalogue department and then part time in the Framing department while he completed his MA Visual Arts at Central Saint Martins. He has combined his love of art and combined that with a love of framing, as well as raising a daughter with Emily for the past 10 years. He has exhibited his work at Palais de Tokyo, MOCCA; Museum of Contemporary Canadian Art, Site Gallery Sheffield, Kunsthalle Exnergasse, Vienna as well as other galleries & venues.

Meet The Team

Vicky Bulmer (General Manager) has worked at the Royal Academy of Arts and was a founding member of FRAME. She brings with her years of experience and creative flair having graduated at Arts institution Bournemouth in illustration. She continues to practise this when time permits between her young family and her time at FRAME.

Katie Godwin (General Manager) joined FRAME from Tate where she was in charge of the freelance art handlers. She has helped FRAME develop its internal production and planning systems which are the underpinning of everything creative that we do here. Katie’s support and kindness have helped to professionalise and shape the current ethos of who we are. She has her own interest and pursuit of islamic ink drawing and is keen for FRAME to adopt an office dog- this is currently in negotiation.

Daniel Lipp (Artwork Department Lead) is a practising artist and graduate of Royal Academy Schools, London. He has worked as an artist assistant for many years before joining FRAME. He brings an exceptional level of skill and knowledge to every project. Daniel has also been a creative driving force behind the FRAME editions program that we run, helping publish different artist frame editions each year. He is a practising artist and actively engaged with his love and production of art.

Robert Stokes (Fabrication Lead) is our top woodsman. He has been with FRAME since early on and has evolved his skill set to allow FRAME to provide a highly bespoke range of wood designs and joining solutions. His skill in wood crafting techniques and attention to detail allows us to provide ever evolving new products showing off the different range of woods on offer. Rob is integral to our specialist frames and his creative expertise has allowed us to showcase a range of one off designs exclusive to FRAME London.

Alex Firth (Lead Design) is the Front of House at FRAME and is the first trusted point of contact. He has had many years of experience working in framing but also in the museum sector. He also used to work at the V&A Museum where we have supplied many of our frames over the years so he was already familiar with our work before he joined us. He brings a welath of knowledge and passion working with art and also people.
