FRAME Editions

FRAME Editions is a series of collaborations between the artist and the framer, in the tradition of artist's frames. Working closely with contemporary artists and makers to produce limited edition artworks, FRAME Editions reconsiders the trend for minimal, discreet framing, and instead revives the grand tradition of the statement frame.

Both Harry [Co-Director] and I have a background in museums and long-admired the magnificent craftsmanship of frames and how they reflect the architectural tastes of the time. We are fascinated by artists who create their own frames, from the Pre-Raphaelites whose designs pioneered a bold new aesthetic, to artists such as Howard Hodgkin who incorporated the frame into his paintings. With FRAME Editions we wanted to revive this tradition of artist designed frames in a contemporary way which would fit with modern living but also buck the trend for minimalism.
— Emily Taylor, Co-Director FRAME London

FRAME Editions launched in September 2019 with artist and ceramicist Aaron Angell. Cabbage Solar is a small series of artworks painted on glass and housed in a frame inspired by the techniques used to make Tudor doll's houses. All editions in this series are completely unique.

Juno's Volute by artist Aimée Parrott is the second edition published in November 2020. A series of ten individual monotypes linked by process and form, overlaid with translucent washes of acrylic ink on glass, the frame was designed to provide a structure for the various layers to interact. The editions are individual works which are part of a series.
